The Verge: NEX-5n best mirrorless, Nikon 1 worse mirrorless (but Nikon rules in UK!)

The Year in Review article at The Verge (Click here) chooses the NEX-5n as product of the year while the Nikon 1 is the camera disappointment of the year. But despite the critic from The Verge at least in UK the Nikon 1 system is the most popular of all mirrorless systems (Source: Photographyblog).

Fuji X-mount entry level camera rumors (M-mount adapter coming in April)

There is some good news for those of you that would love to join the X-mount system but without to have to pay $1.700 for the X PRO 1. Dpreview (Click here) has been told by Fuji that one more less expensive X mount camera will come in future. Would be nice to know if that “future” is somewhere near but Fuji didn’t give any details about that yet.

The good news is that the M to X mount adapter is coming very soon! Photographyblog (Click here) reports that Fuji will release it in April.

You remember the lady that talked about a possible 14mm f/1.4 lens? Her name is Kayce Baker and she got interviewed by Imaging Resource (Click here). She confirms that she saw on the roadmap that the 14mm lens was f/1.4! And she tells us something unknown about the mysterious organic sensor: “The organic sensor has nothing to do with our imaging technology. It has to do more with the industrial side of our business.

P.S.: Dpreview also heard from Fuji that the new X10 firmware will be released in February to fix the ‘white-orb’ issue. And Fujifilm Digital Imaging director Adrian Clarke said that when launching the X100 they didn’t know who was going to buy the X100: “but twice as many people bought them as we expected.“

 

 

Canon G1 X news and reviews roundup (super image quality!)

Focus Numerique (Click here) just posted the Canon G1 X ISO test and it looks like a real top performer! The Canon G1 X is Canons (first) counterattack against the current mirrorless systems. It provides a unique solution, top image quality (with big sensors) in a compact body with retractable zoom lens. I am really curious to see if the camera will sell well. Preorders are already up at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here). The only way to measure the popularity right now is the Amazon Ranking (Click here). It’s on position 31 in the compact camera category. Probably not a good result for now!

Official new Fuji lens roadmap. Fuji lady makes mistake and says 14mm f/1.4 is coming! Price drop on X100

Fujifilm announced a “real” X Pro 1 lens roadmap (via Techradar). There will be 28mm f/2.8 and 23mm f/2 will prime lenses and 70-200mm f/4.0 Image + 12-20mm f/4.0 IS lenses. The maximum aperture hasn’t been 100% chosen yet. But as you know we alreayd posted the possible final specs. These are the lenses coming in 2012:
-14mm f/2.8
– 18-72mm f/4.0 with IS (Image stabilization).
These are the lenses coming in 2013
– 28mm f/2.8 pancake
– 23mm f/2.0
– 72-200mm f/4.0 IS
– 12-24mm f/4.0 IS
And there are still two more unkown lenses to come within 2013.

Now that we all know theat the X PRO 1 exists (LOL) stores are lowering the rice of the Fuji X100. It sells for $1,117 only at Amazon (Click here). At the moment of writing there are only eleven cameras left in store!

Triple Fuji X PRO 1 preview at Gizmodo, Engadget and Digitalcamerainfo.

You can now read two interesting reviews. The first is from Gizmodo (Click here): “The camera’s one drawback, and Fuji has told us that this will be the case on the production models, is that the autofocus isn’t going to be as snappy as it is on other cameras. Fuji says thats because that’s not what this camera is about.“
And Engadget (Click here) says: “the X-Pro1 can produce usable 16-by-20-inch prints even at ISO 25,600, which is the maximum supported sensitivity. Identical images shot with the 5D Mark II showed significant noise in shadow areas, while the Sony Alpha A77 (NEX-7) produced an image that you certainly wouldn’t want hanging on a wall…Again, all of these samples were provided by Fujifilm, and were not the result of independent testing.“
The guys from Digitalcamerainfo (Click here) also played with the camera: “Those brave design choices are a big part of why the X-Pro1 is the most endearing system camera we’ve seen in years. We can only really comment on the design and handling since we haven’t been able to run it through our battery of image quality tests. But from what we’ve seen, it’s a sweet, slick shooter.“

We really need some independent image quality test soon ;)
