Resumee: Sony, Samsung, Olympus, Panasonic and Fuji. All of them will announce new mirrorless cameras for the February CP+ event!

Samsung likes to hint their future camera strategy by listing not yet announced cameras on their support page. Today there is a new NX camera called “NXF1“. And that added “F” gives us big hope that this will be the first Samsung Full Frame mirrorless camera. If that’s true it will have to be damn good to compete against the just announced Sony A7 and A7r cameras!
To nor repeat their failure with the APS-C NX series Samsung has to reinvent the wheel with the new FF system. I hope they come up with some features that really MAKE a difference. On my wish list:
– Foveon Full Frame sensor
– Hybrid viewfinder like the Fuji X-PRO 1
– Price $1000
I know I am dreaming here. But if they only do one of the mentioned points than yes they will have my attention :)

Apparently Canon delayed the launch of the new EOS-M2 camera til early 2014. The reason why they did so is unknown. The EOS-M2 is rumored to be not that different from the predecessor and should feature the same 70D sensor.

CanonWatch spotted that Korean Canon teaser for a new camera announcement. But as you can see from the covered camera shape this hardly will be a new EOS-M camera. Looks more like a successor of the very small Canon SL1. This means we can give up our hopes to see the new EOS-M2 :(
There is still one more little announcement left for this year! Fuji will release the XF 10-24mm zoom on November 20. The next lens announcement will follow soon after: The XF 56mm is coming on January 6. Great Fuji! But where is our X-PRO2 with new sensor? :)
Today Pentax announced the release of a new Q-mount wide anle zoom. It’s the smallest and lightest ultra-wide angle zoom of any mirrorless system. It’s 17.5mm-27mm (FF equivalent) and has a f/3.7-4 aperture.

Sony, Olympus, Panasonic and Fuji are fully pushing their mirrorless system while big companies and Samsung, Canon and Nikon seem to not have a clear vision about their future strategy. This is the situation:
Samsung: They should announced the NX20 successor in January-February. In general Samsung will focus on new High End Camera and Lens products.
Nikon: The Nikon 1 system isn’t selling as expected and the future seems uncertain. With the new Nikon DF announcement they once again confirm that DSLR is their present and future strategy. There is no rumor about any APS-C or FF mirrorless camera release in 2014.
Canon: DPP (Digital Photo Professional) already had listed the EOS-M2 but it seems like Canon is delaying the camera release. Like Nikon also Canon sees the mirrorless camera industry as a “non-serious” market.
Of the three companies Samsung is the only company really investing and believing in mirrorless. But it looks like they still didn’t find the way to make their system successful.
