Sony plans to “WOW” E-mount lovers with the world’s fastest new 28-70mm f/2.0 lens?

Bildschirmfoto 2016-01-29 um 07.21.03

Sony E-mount owners still lack the possibility to buy some f/2.8 zoom. Sony managers stated months ago that they acknowledge they have to “do something” in that regard. Well, there may be a chance that Sony goes to “wow” us with a crazy lens: The Japanese site Egami found a brand new Sony patent describing what would be the world’s fastest Full Frame zoom yet…a new 28-70mm f/2.0 FE zoom!

Of course this is only a patent yet and we may never see such a lens in a real store. But the fact they patented it means engineers seriously are considering to make it. Here are the patent details:

  • Patent Publication No. 2016-14841
    • Published 2016.1.28
    • Filing date 2014.7.3
  • Example 1
    • Focal length f = 28.84 45.32 66.50mm
    • Fno. 2.06
    • Half angle of view ? = 36.87 25.52 18.02 °

Damn would it be cool to have such a lens! But it probably would weight and cost a lot too :)

Those are the 2015 Japanese camera sales info via BCNranking: Olympus wins, Sony and Panasonic loose shares.

BCNranking

BCNranking posted the full detailed Japanese market share info based on the 2015 sales. Here are the top three of each category with comparison with last years share:

DSLR cameras:
Canon 56.2% (54,7% in 2014)
Nikon 36.7% (39,1% in 2014)
Ricoh 6.7% (4,5% in 2014)

Mirrorless cameras:
Olympus 34.5% (22,3% in 2014)
Sony 24.8% (34,3% in 2014)
Canon 13.6% (no info on 2014. Last year Panasonic was third with 11,9%)

Fixed lens cameras:
Canon 30.5% (28,7% in 2014)
Nikon 21.0% (15,3% in 2014)
Casio 14.8% (15,2% in 2014)

Lens sales:
Canon 24.1% (21,2% in 2014)
Nikon 15.2% (15,3% in 2014)
Sigma 13.5% (13,3% in 2014)

What’s interesting from a mirrorless point of view:
Olympus made a huge jump forward and Sony a huge jump backwards in 2015. This is really surprising!
And Panasonic “lost” the third place to Canon despite Canon certainly not having “pushed” the mirrorless system so far (just look at the poor lens line up).

What are your thoughts on those trends?

Thansk rrccad for the info.

Big Olympus PEN-F announcement soon.

P07

So folks it’s Olympus time! At 6am London time (Jan 27) Olympus will announce the new PEN-F. Everything about the camera got leaked (specs and images). So there will be not much to surprise you. But MFT folks will be happy to know that both Olympus and Panasonic will have new product announcements in exactly one month from now:

Panasonic will announce the GF8. And Olympus the new f/1.2 lenses.

And than we have the Sony A61000, maybe a new Canon mirrorless and maybe even a Nikon surprise. Plenty to look forward too!

Is Cp+ going to be the big event for Canon’s Full Frame mirrorless launch?

2016 is likely going to be the year where both Canon and Nikon will announce their first “PRO” mirrorless system cameras. According to Canonrumors Canon will “surprise a lot of people” at CP+. While he has no detail about what the surprise could be he speculates this could be a Canon FF camera.

I have not received any hint about a Canon FF mirrorless yet. But I am sure it would be good news if Sony will finally get some competition.
