8K Camera from XIMEA with 48 Mpix and up to 30 fps now released

This is an indsutry camera bbut it’s still intruiging to read the specs of their press release:

Muenster, Germany – newest models in the high-speed line of PCI Express cameras announced earlier are now available to order.

The well-known line called xiB already offers 4K and 5K models with 12 and 20 Mpix resolution and fast speed. With the addition of the new CMV50000 sensors from CMOSIS (AMS) to the xiB camera the 8K resolution is now available! We anticipate the initial stock to be low until the end of 2017 and production to begin in earnest early in 2018 – please get your inquiries in now!

This latest model, called CB500, is equipped with high grade 35mm, full frame, Global shutter CMOS sensor with 7920 x 6004 pixels resolution and ability to provide 8, 10, 12 or 14-bit crystal clear images. With the help of PCI Express (PCIe), this 48 Mpix sensor is able to reach the remarkable speed of over 30 Fps at full resolution.

The camera’s data and control interface is fully compliant with PCI Express External Cabling Specifications, which allows 20 Gbit/s and real data throughput of 1550 MB/s. In addition, fiber optic cabling can be used for data streaming direct to memory from distances of up to 300m without the expense of additional frame grabbers or special, complicated software.

The camera package itself is remarkably compact in size and power consumption – physical dimensions of only 60 x 60 x 38 mm and 175g. Its power consumption, reduced by design and components, can be as low as 9 Watt. Further enhancement comes from an integrated active lens interface compatible with Canon EF-mount. This allows remote control of aperture, focus and image stabilization.

Applications examples include: Flat panel inspection, printed circuit board (PCB) examination, persistent stadium and border security, wide area surveillance, 360 panorama, cinematography, instant replays, Virtual and Augmented reality (VR, AR), Sports imaging and broadcasting, motion capture and aerial or city mapping.

Hasselblad announces the new XCD 135mm and 80mm lenses!

Press text:

XCD lens range expanded to a total of nine lenses

The Hasselblad XCD lens range keeps growing, and we are pleased to announce the XCD 135mm and 80mm, expanding to a total of nine lenses for the X1D. By end of 2018, X1D users will have a wide range of lens options to maximize their creative vision.

The XCD 135mm f/2.8 lens comes with a dedicated 1,7x converter that extends the tele lens to 230mm f/4.8, while the XCD 80mm is set to become the highest aperture lens that Hasselblad has ever introduced.

In addition to these two new lenses, the previously announced XCD 22mm ultra-wide-angle lens has been updated to 21mm to meet the Hasselblad users’ demand for a better wide-angle lens experience.

Like the other XCD lenses, all new XCD lenses have an integral central shutter offering a wide range of shutter speeds and full flash synchronisation up to 1/2000th second.

We can also confirm apertures for the all previously announced XCD lenses: the XCD 21 ultra-wide-angle lens will feature f/4.0, the XCD 35-75mm zoom lens will have f/3.5-4.5, and the XCD 65mm lens will have f/2.8.

All new XCD lenses, besides XCD 80mm, are expected to be available during the first half of 2018, while the XCD 80mm high aperture featuring lens is planned for the second half of 2018.

The demand for the previously announced XCD 120mm macro lens and the XH lens adapter exceeded Hasselblad’s expectations, but the production is now being ramped up and orders are being fulfilled globally.

In addition to the nine dedicated XCD lenses, the XH lens adapter allows the X1D owners to use all twelve HC/HCD lenses.

7Artisans will launch three new lenses soon: 12mm f/2.8, 35mm f/1.2 and 35mm f/2.0

Richard Wong got the details about three new lenses that will be launched by 7Artisans:

7Artisans contacted me and told me about their upcoming product roadmap which they haven’t announce before. They have three new lenses coming out before end of this year:

1. 12mm f/2.8 lens for cropped sensor mirrorless cameras: Sony E, Canon EOS-M, Fuji X and Micro Four Thirds.

2. 35mm f/1.2 lens for cropped sensor mirrorless cameras: Sony E, Canon EOS-M, Fuji X and Micro Four Thirds.

3. 35mm f/2 lens for Leica M Mount cameras. And unlike their 50mm f/1.1 lens (review link in this post), the aperture lens of the 35 f/2 will have clicks!!! The de-clicked aperture ring on the 50 f/1.1 lens is probably the biggest complaint I’ve heard about this lens and I did contact them while I was working on the review and suggested them to consider making a clicked version for their future M lenses. So it’s great to hear they are listening to customers!!

No price or other information about these lenses yet, but they promised they’ll let me know as soon as they are available (which can’t be too far away as it’s already Nov!)
So stay tuned!!

current 7artisans lenses are listed on Amazon.com, Amazon.de, Amazon.co.uk, and [shoplink 304522 ebay]eBay[/shoplink].

Is the new L16 a real DSLR killer? The answer is no :(

From the beginning, Light has touted their technology in general and the L16 in particular as a “DSLR killer.” You can see this (and hear some deeper details about their technology) in Dave Etchells’ interview with Light’s CEO and CTO from a few years back here.

Imaging Resource examined the L16 images and came to a different conclusion:

The camera doesn’t seem to be able to accurately gauge depth at a level commensurate with subject detail, and therefore seems to “guess” when it’s not sure. The guesswork comes across as smearing, often in bands. It appears in certain areas during obvious depth transition, but other times for no apparent reason.

Still a liong way before compact cameras or smartphones can match or even beat “real” system cameras.
