Sony says ok your are right…we now will focus on APS-C again :)

The endless and justified complains against the weak Sony APS-C E-mount support finally had some effect. Mr. Tanaka from Sony confirmed in an interview at Pronews.jp that they will now focus on APS-C again.

In his words Sony had to complete the FF camera line first before to move on to APS-C again. As rumored weeks ago Sony is expected to launch a new High End APS-C model soon. It will have:

  • EVF in the center
  • larger body
  • 20fps
  • new around 30MP sensor?

Let’s hope some nice APS-C glass is going to be announced too…

First image of the new Zeiss Otus 1.4/100

Nokishita leaked the first images of the soon to be announced new Zeiss Otus 100mm f/1.4 lens. There is yet no info about pricing and official release date. As usual expect this lens to be available in native Canon EF and Nikon F mounts. But you can use it on any mirrorless system camera with the proper adapter.

Skylum showcases their new “Sky Enhancer” tool for Luminar

Skylum pre-announced the new Sky Enhancer feature (full announcement blog post here). It’s going to be released as a free Luminar update on November 1. If you plan to buy Luminar use our code “MIRROR” to get a $10 discount.

About AI Sky Enhancer:

This filter was created for photographers who would rather focus on creating photos, and have neither the time or inclination to spend hours correcting their images.

By moving a single slider you can add depth, definition, and detail to the sky without exposing unwanted artifacts or affecting any other aspect of the image.

No one wants boring skies in their photos, and restoring and improving the sky is one of the most important things while creating a masterpiece. We’ve done our best to make this process as simple as it can be –  the new AI Sky Enhancer creates no halos, automatically detects the edges of the sky and recognizes the sky even inside other objects such as bridges.

Offer Availability:

The new and advanced AI Sky Enhancer Filter is going to be added to Luminar on November 1, 2018 in advance of Luminar Libraries.

Pricing:

  • New users can purchase Luminar 2018 for $59 USD ($49 with “MIRROR” coupon code)

  • Current users of Luminar 2018 may update for free

  • Current users of Luminar 2017 may upgrade for $49 USD ($39 with “MIRROR” coupon code)

Leica manager says Sony E-mount wasn’t designed for Full Frame sensor

You usally hear it on forums that “Sony E-mount wasn’t designed for Full Frame“. But for the first time a high ranking manager is actually claiming that very statement

L-rumors.com spotted this sentence from Leica manager Stephan Schulz.

That’s a big difference with the L-mount versus the Sony E mount. They started the mount with the NEX, which was APS, but Sony didn’t have full frame in mind at that time. So, they had some challenges in making the lenses work for full frame. The Leica L-mount is much bigger which gives us more flexibility.

I don’t think Sony will be happy with that statement. That said we have also to admit Sony makes some of the best Full Frame lenses in the world. Despite that alleged “handicap”.

You can join the new L Full Frame Facebook group if you plan to buy this camera. There you can discuss all features and tests once it’s released!
