Fujirumors spotted this first image of the back of the $10,000 Fuji GFX100 medium format camera. The camera has 2 joysticks, no D-Pad and a 3-way tilt screen. But this is a prototype and things migh change til the official release in mid 2019.

Fujirumors also reports the 16mm f/2.8 XF lens is scheduled for release in early 2019…which means soon :)

CIPA report from November: The digital camera market gets in deeper crisis and new Canon/Nikon mirrorless cannot help it

Oh dear folks I have been so wrong. I hoped that in 2017 we bottomed out but I was wrong. In 2018 the digital camera market shrunk further. My next hope was that the new Canon and Nikon mirrorless cameras would help to recover a bit but I was wrong again. In November 2018 Japanese companies shipped 17% less camera units compared to last year. And this despite the new Canon EOS-R and Nikon Z cameras shipping throughout the world.

What can save the camera industry now? I think we are stuck at the moment. Current cameras are so good you really don’t need any upgrade. Moreover new cameras offer only incremental improvements and do cost more than ever.

We need real innovation. An example? I really want an APP store support built-in on my camera. Where third party developers can sell special APPS I can buy and download on my camera. Yes, just like a smartphone! This stupid basic idea would at least open a new market and make cameras interesting again.

Or do you have even better ideas to share in the comment system?

Canon says “8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap”

Imaging Resource interviewed Canon manager Mr. Yoshiyuki Mizoguchi. Here is a summary made by CanonWatch:

[…] sales performance of EOS R camera and RF lenses is almost in line with our original expectation. We have gotten a huge amount of positive feedback on the RF lenses. Everyone who has tried the RF 50mm F1.2 has loved it.

We developed the EOS R System for the next 30 years, and started by introducing higher-end RF lenses. Yes, we are very serious about mirrorless. But please do not get the wrong impression, we will continue to enhance DSLR technology and products as well.

Video will play a huge role in the EOS R System for sure. For example, an 8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap

Panasonic and Sony already confirmed they are working on 8K cameras. Happy to hear Canon is in the basket too :)
