This is simply Nikon’s attempt to cut costs as much as it gets. Don’t think this is enough to make them stay in the business. Troubling times for Nikon :(

But when are those kind of sensors to a mirrorless camera? Not any time soon for sure. The problem is that you would have to launch a completely new line of lenses designed for those sensors. Your “older” lenses designed for flat sensors would not work anymore.
I know Sony had such a prototype lens and some patents some years ago. I guess an RX fixed lens camera using such a sensor may be coming in 2-3 years…
