The giant is awakening: Sony will have major announcements within 1-2 months!

As reported on SonyAlphaRumors we finally got clear evidence that the Sony empire is now ready to strike back. Today Sony registered a new high end camera with the code “WW271448” (via Nokishita). We know it’s a high end camera because:

1) it has advanced Wifi capabilities and
2) because our sources called us in the middle of the night to share important news that we will post soon :)

In fact, I already know that the surprise will be even bigger than you can imagine. You will read the first rumors starting from next week on SonyAlphaRumors!

Olympus seems to be back: Considering PEN-F relaunch and release of many new products in 2020

In this German interview Olympus shares a bold plan. We should expect quite many products in 2020 including a possible successor of the PEN-F series! Some key highlights:

150-400mm PRO lens:
The lens will be on market by autumn 2020.

PEN-F:
PEN-F is still in Stock but Olympus stopped the production. But Olympus has yet NOT decided if there will be a successor or not. Still, Olympus asked to customers what they think should be improved on a future PEN-F model

Super fast f/2.0 zooms:
Olympus wants to make lenses as small as possible an that’s why they didn’t make MFT versions of their older super fast f/2.0 zooms

2020 roadmap:
He confirms in 2020 we will get new cameras and new lenses.

Will Zeiss “mirrorlessify” the Otus line?

Yep, I just invented the word “mirrorlessify” and the copyright is on my name :)

And now to this rumor: Zeiss might launch a new high quality line of lenses designed for Full Frame mirrorless camera only. If this happens I do not think the lenses will have autofocus. They will surely be less bulky and less heavier than the current Otus DSLR lens series. Question is if they are really going to sell those lenses because Sigma has a super series of ART lenses that do cost 0,0001% of the Otus line. I know this isn’t mathematically right but it “feels” right :)

Is Canon really going to launch two new EOS-M bodies in 2020?

I still wonder why in a declining market Canon insists on the EOS-M system. They should simply make APS-C EOS-R bodies to keep costs down. But hey, the marketing and manager world often does work with a logic I cannot comprehend :)

CanonWatch reports:

It’s suggested that Canon might release two new EOS M bodies in 2020. One of these could likely be the Canon EOS M60 (the replacement for the EOS M50, might also be named EOS M50 Mark II). The other one could be the Canon EOS M5 Mark II. We reported back in February that Canon might announce the M5 II in October 2020 and the EOS M60 at the beginning of 2021.

The new Canon EOS M rumor mentions also the possibility that Canon might release two prime lenses for the EOS M system. One of these could be the EF-M 52mm f/2 STM we reported in February 2020. Our rumor mentioned a EF-M 18-45mm f/2-4 IS STM, which is not mentioned in the new rumor.

Tactical game: Sony postpones product launch to avoid Canon product launch overlap

3 weeks ago Sony announced it would have a Cine focused product launch event on April 20. A week after Canon said they would also have such an even on April 20. That was quite an odd move from Canon. But today Sony quietly decided to postpone the event to April 30.

Anyway, most of us couldn’t care less. On both event we will likely get new Cine lenses and Camcorder stuff only. Do not expect to get an A7sIII or a new EOS-R camera :(
