Canon EOS R1 to be announced in 2022 to compete against the Nikon Z9

PetaPixel reports about the nw R1 coming in 2022. Specs might be something like this:

45+ megapixels, 8K video recording at various framerates, and a price somewhere north of the R3’s $5,999

CanonWatch writes the camera might be releases in Q3 2022 and that the Canon EOS R1 will incorporate technology that will “let all competitors behind“.

This would mean it’s better than the new Nikon Z9. Nice if true…but one year is still a long time to go before we see it in real!

Nikon India has leaked the Z 9 specs: 45MP, 8K/60p, 120fps, 20fps Raw

On October 28 Nikon will launch the new Z 9 high end camera. Nikon India shortly leaked the product video including the specs summed by CanonWatch (who found the youtube video embeded here):

  • 45MP stacked sensor
  • 120 fps
  • GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System)
  • EN-EL18c battery, and a new battery (EN-EL18x) that can be charged through camera USB-C.
  • Multi-leaf blade protective shutter
  • Car/motorcycle AF tracking, animal and people AI AF, as low as -7 EV
  • Improved articulated screen
  • Two CFExpress memory cards.
  • Third joystick/selector added
  • New shooting modes
  • Shutter sound level control

This is the week for MFT owners: Panasonic and Olympus will unveil their new high end camera on October 27

Micro Four Thirds had a hard year. With little announcements and many doubts. But both companies will have major announcements on October 17

Panasonic Japan announced it will celebrate the 20th anniversary on October 27th. I And there is a chance we might get some more info about the new GH6.

And OM Digital plans to make two kind of announcements:

  • Announcement of the new naming structure (there will be rebranding from OM-D E-M to OM 1D, OM 5D, OM 10D etc.)
  • Teaser of the new wow camera (Launch in early 2022, new kind of sensor, E-M1III size body).

I hope this will mark the day MFT came definitely back from the death!
