Finally some Canon EOS-M rumors…

CR finally got some bits about possible new Canon mirrorless stuff: There may be three new EOS-M lenses coming within the next few months. A 55-300mm, a fast prime and a super zoom. There will be also a new EOS-M body which we on MirrorlessRumors already said would have an integrated viewfinder and improved AF performance ….which currently on the EOS-M literally…sucks :)

New Olympus PEN, Panasonic GF, Samsung NX-30 and Sony NEX-3N on market in Spring.

According to anonymous sources a new Olympus PEN and a new Panasonic GF and a new Sony NEX-3N camera will be for sale in Spring. Exact announcement date and specs are yet unknown. While the Panasonic and Sony will be the new entry level mirrorless camera for their system the Olympus will be a semi pro (or advanced) mirrorless camera. And there will be a new NX30 from Samsung too!

This is more or less what we can expect to see within the next 1-2 months. Still no news form the Canon and Nikon front…

Let’s drop the bomb: New Samsung Full Frame NX-R to come in March?

It was back in 2008 when Samsung Manager Kyong-Kook Shin suggested that “the firm is actively pursuing development of a full-frame CMOS sensor intended for use in a professional camera” (Source AP). But at that time they thought they would launch it as a DSLR model.

According to a new anonymous source Samsung secretly worked on the development of a new Full Frame mirrorless camera that will be launched in March! If that is true they will beat on time both Sony and Fuji that are rumored to launched their FF mirrorless systems in late 2013 – early 2014. The new camera will be named Samsung NX-R. The name once popped up inside the Samsung support database (now removed).

No specs have been unveiled yet but I hope some other sources may hear the call and can send me an anonymous message at mirrorlessrumors@gmail.com to share some more bits. Thanks!

Back from hell: Kodak-JK new mirrorless camera to come within the year!

The heavily in crisis company Kodak just came back to life! According to Amateur Photographer: “A Kodak-branded interchangeable lens camera will be among a series of products that bosses say will be launched as part of a licensing deal it has struck with manufacturer JK Imaging Ltd.

And Kodak manager Dennis Olbrich said that a compact system camera is “part of the portfolio“! TO be clear, Kodak will license their name to JK Imaging and collaborate but not directing them.

Sigma DP3 Merrill First Impressions

Let’s talk again (briefly) about Sigma’s third companion in the fellowship of the Merrills, the DP3. We start with the specifications:

  • 46MP Foveon X3 sensor (APS-C 1.5x)
  • 50mm f2.8 lens with SLD glass (Special Low Dispersion)
  • Dual TRUE II Image Processing Engines
  • Minimum focusing of 8.9?
  • Macro shooting at 1:3
  • 9 point AF
  • Face detection
  • 3 inch TFT LCD at 920,000 dots
  • Hot shoe and lens hood
  • SD video recording
  • ISO 100-6400 set in 1/3 steps

Yes, 46MP…not bad uh? And a fixed 50mm f/2.8 lens, that’s a 75mm on 35mm film equivalent. Weird, isn’t it? But, hey, the DP3 looks good with its minimalist look. You just have to buy all three DP3s to have the needed flexibility (DP1 19mm, 28mm eq.; DP2 30mm, 45mm eq.). Chris Gampat over at The Phoblographer had a chance to play around a bit with the DP3. About image quality he writes:

Because I worked with a pre-production unit, I couldn’t stick a card in the camera. However, I saw prints made with it; and they’re stunning.

His first impressions:

I walked away quite impressed with the DP3 and I may even be able to get used to shooting at 75mm. It’s a weird focal length though: too long to be normal and too short to be a proper portrait focal length in my opinion.

The build quality of the camera is what truly blew me away though; and that may also help to justify its high price tag.

We have yet to wait for the price of the DP3 Merrill, as well as for pre-order options. However, you can get notified by B&H about the availability by clicking here.
