Canon M and Ricoh GXR replacements likely coming soon…

Canon:
The current Canon EOS-M is the most sold mirrorless camera at Amazon US (Click here to see the ranking). The reason is that it sells for $299 only. But now Amazon has no more cameras left in Stock and also Adorama removed the camera from their database. I have no doubt that a new EOS-M will be announced within 1-2 months.

Ricoh:
The Ricoh GXR is no longer available at BHphoto (Click here). Also in that case a major new release is expected within 1-2 months.

Reminder: Most new mirrorless cameras will be announce din late August right before the IFA event in Berlin. So while we are in Summertime there is really no reason for vacation on rumor sites. The news storm will hit us all very soon!

New Olympus E-M1 and three more Fuji X cameras to come.

Olympus
It’s less than two months to go until the big announcement time by end August. There will be plenty of new mirrorless cameras coming right before the IFA show in Berlin. One of them is certainly the new Olympus OMD camera. For now rumored specs do say that it will retain the same sensor, same EVF and same form factor as the E-M5. But like the new E-P5 it will have 1/8000 shutter and Built-in WiFi. An interesting new fearure is the 81 AF points system which suggest that the 16MP sensor may contain some extra phase detection pixels. (Source: Photorumors).

Fuji
There are three more X cameras to come. One interchangeable entry level X camera (yes cheaper than the X-M1) and two fixed lens X cameras. One of them shoudl be the X-30 with a larger than 1 inche sensor and placed to compete against the new Sony RX100MII. (Source: Fujirumors).

Reminder:
Panasonic will announce the GX7, Sony the new NEX-7 successor. Everything coming in late August!

New Olympus 25mm lens and Sony mirrorless A-mount cameras rumors.

None of the following two rumors are a surprise:
1) It’s now over 6 months that rumors about a new Olympus 25mm f/1.8 lens are floating around the web. The design on top has been leaked in China and may shows the real lens characteristics with a 46mm diameter. Expected announcement in early September along the new OMD!
2) As I told you weeks ago Sony will go full mirrorless with their A-mount system. The A-mount cameras will keep the classic DSLR design and body but there will be no mirror between mount and sensor. The A77 successor will hit the market in Q1 2014 and be the first APS-C A-mount mirrorless camera.

Overall I suspect that many DSLR manufacturers will sooner or later make full mirrorless “DSLR-look” cameras. Today’s announced Canon 70D has a very advanced on sensor PDAF which makes the classic phase detection system used by DSLR cameras almost useless.

Will there be a High End Lytro compact camera from Apple?

Jeremy, the Editor-in-Chief from iLounge is sure that Apple is about to launch a new High End compact camera, a “model designed to deliver image quality and zoom functionality beyond what iPhones, iPads, and iPods can deliver in their thinning bodies.

Jeremy also says: “Just as with the iPhone, Apple wants to give users a powerful tool that can be used to produce awesome results without needing to understand technical details, jargon, or legacy controls. The product is planned for after the release of the iTV.

As you know Jobs met with Lytro regarding an acquisition before his death and it may be that Apple wants to make a high quality Lytro camera.

Water damaged Fuji X100s stock increases the camera value up to $2,999.95!

A large Stock of Fuji X100s cameras that shipped to US has been water damaged and therefore neither Amazon nor BHphoto have any single camera in Stock. And they also do not set any possible shipment date. As a consequence the only few Fuji X100s for sale will cost you $2,999.95 on .

It could be a good business idea for EU or Asian readers travelling to US to carry a couple of these cameras in their bag and sell them to desperate US citizen! Full vacation costs can be paid with the extra income :)

Canon Full Frame compact coming soon? (UPDATE: Busted!)

There may be life on the planet named Canon! CanonWatch spotted that camera list on the Canon France website. It displays a yet non-existing “Compacts 24×36? camera option. There will be a Canon announcement next week do we can hope a miracle happens and Canon may introduce the first Sony RX1/RX1R competitor!

UPDATE: Nope, Canon can’t do miracles. Our reader Pnada89 (Thanks!) noticed that on the french site “Compacts 24×36” usually stands for the analog 135 film cameras.
