Canon says they will not make a High-Resolution Version of the Canon R1

PetaPixel had a short chat with Canon manager Go Tokura. He made it clear that there is no high resolution version of the Canon R1 on their roadmap:

“We consider the flagship to basically be at the pinnacle of our lineup, which means we’re not going to have two flagship models because we’ve basically put everything that we have — the best performance and the best trust — into the EOS R1. So I would say that we would probably never consider developing another model using the same body as the EOS R1.

For example, if we have higher resolution, then we know that that will skew the balance and the sensitivity will be lower. That is a physical mechanism. So in a flagship, we would never focus on just one aspect of the performance that would destroy the balance. I believe our current strategy is to have the 5-series be responsible for the high resolution quality

First leaked Fujifilm GFX100RF image: The world’s first digital fixed lens medium format camera with two innovative features!

Finally we can see the first image of the upcoming new FujiFuilm GFX100RF. Here are the specs:

  • 102MP sensor of the GFX100
  • World’s first camera with: Aspect ratio dial
  • World’s first crop lever (in front of camera, not seen on this image)
  • combined ISO/Shutter Dial
  • about 5K USD Price. That’s more than $1,000 less than the Leica Q3.
  • More compact than the Q3 when it comes to the thickness because of the more compact lens.
  • The lens is 35mm f/4.0. It’s near pancake and unlike the Q3 this makes it possible to fit it into a jacket.
  • It has no IBIS, but this was made to keep the camera thin (and again save costs)
  • a little bit taller than X-Pro3
  • EVF Only (no hybrid)…again for size and cost reasons
  • black and silver color
  • announcement March 20

And you think this will be another Winner for Fujifilm?

Rumored Leica M12 specs: Smaller and with hybrid viewfinder?

In 2025, we will finally get a new generation of the Leica M camera called “M12”. Here is a summary of the rumors based on various Weibo sources:

Rumored Leica M112 Specifications and Features

  • Compact Design: The Leica M12 is expected to be approximately 3mm smaller than the M11, improving portability while maintaining the iconic Leica aesthetic.
  • Viewfinder Innovations: Conflicting reports suggest either a hybrid optical-electronic viewfinder, similar to Fujifilm’s X100 series, or a full transition to an electronic viewfinder (EVF), marking a significant shift for the M series.
  • Control Layout Changes: The traditional ISO dial on the top left may be removed, replaced by a thumb-operated dial near the shutter button for enhanced manual control.
  • Enhanced Display: A larger 3.9-inch rear touchscreen is rumored to replace the M11’s 2.95-inch display. This change could lead to the removal of most physical buttons on the back, offering a streamlined user interface.
  • Image Stabilization: While in-body image stabilization (IBIS) is not expected, stabilization mechanisms in the LCD screen and EVF may aid composition and focus.
  • Pricing: The Leica M12 is projected to retail for approximately $10,000, solidifying its position as a premium product in Leica’s lineup.

What This Means for Leica Fans

If these rumors are true, the Leica M12 represents a significant evolution in the M series, blending traditional design elements with modern technology. The potential introduction of a hybrid or electronic viewfinder, a larger display, and updated controls may appeal to both longtime Leica users and newcomers.
