We already know almost everything about the new X PRO 1. But how good are the X lenses? That question has been now answered by the reviewer team from ePhotozine:

1) Fujifilm Fujinon XF 18mm f/2 R Lens Review (Click here to read it): “Optically this lens is capable of delivering superb clarity in the central portion of the frame when stopped down a little. It is a shame that sharpness levels drop off towards the edges of the frame, and doubly so that this optic suffers from noticeable chromatic fringing towards the edges of the frame. Even with this lens’ imperfections, it is a pleasure to use, so long as its weaknesses are taken into consideration.“

2) Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 R Lens Review (Click here to read it): “With this lenses ability to deliver extremely sharp images, it should win many fans amongst users of this new camera system.“

3) Fujifilm Fujinon XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro Lens Review (Click here to read it): “Sharpness is excellent from corner to corner, CA is pretty much non-existent, and other optical problems like distortion and falloff are also very well controlled. Unfortunately those wishing to use this lens primarily for macro work may find the issue with internal reflections a little too frustrating. The price is about right for the excellent build quality and features, but this lens will really sell itself on its near-perfect optical performance.“

In Summary the “weakest” lens is the 18mm f/2.0. The other two are very close to perfection. Now let’s hope Fuji will announce the other lenses soon! I am particularly interested in that rumored 14mm f/1.4 lens that could arrive this year :)

Cameralabs (Click here) posted a full Canon G1X review: “The Canon PowerShot G1 X is very much a camera of two personalities. On the happy side is superb image quality in a portable body with an excellent articulated screen and flash hotshoe. But on the sad side is a fixed lens with terrible macro and little chance for a shallow depth-of-field, coupled with below-average continuous shooting from a camera that costs the same as many upper entry-level DSLRs and CSCs but lacks their interchangeable lens mounts.“

Canon PowerShot G1X vs Canon EOS 7D in-depth comparison at DPinterface (Click here): “The Canon G1X produces photos with, overall, better out-of-the-camera sharpness but less color saturation and slightly less detail, though the difference isn’t really obvious.“

Fujifilm X-Pro1 vs Leica M9 (M8) – On The Streets

A good news for our USA readers. The X PRO 1 preorders were so many that for over one month Amazon didn’t accept any preorders anymore. But finally SLR Magic made a cheaper version of the lens without to take compromise in terms of image quality. And the lens is currently being tested on many mirrorless cameras and you can check them out to see if the lens really delivers what it promises:

We already had so many interesting new mirrorless cameras this year that it’s hard to keep up with all the news and reviews! Here are three links to reviews for three different mirrorlress cameras:

Ephotozine posted two interesting reviews one after another. First they published the Canon G1X full review (Click here) and than the Fuji X PRO 1 Full review (Click here). The Canon gets Recommended: “If image quality is of a high importance to you then the Canon Powershot G1 X is recommended, it would be nice if the 5fps shooting mode was available in all modes, rather than in just one of the scene modes.“. And the Fuji gets Highly Recommended: “The image quality is stunning, with excellent, and I really mean excellent pixel level detail, with excellent colour reproduction, great dynamic range, excellent high ISO noise results and excellent JPEG output straight from the camera.“
Pentaxforums published the full K-o1 review (Click here): “The RAW image quality is identical to that of the K-5, which makes the K-01 comparable to other high-end DSLRs if one’s primary purpose is to capture clear images.“

I think all three cameras have intruiguing aspects!

Our friend Valentin Sama from the spanish website DSLRmagazine posted a full X PRO 1 review. There are four articles to read:

The very interesting part of his review is the lens testing:
XF Fujinon 18 mm f / 2 R for Fujifilm X-Pro1: “In short, a superb angular light equivalent to a 28 mm f/2, which can be used without any problem from full aperture of f/2, rivaling the best primes on the market with similar characteristics.“
XF Fujinon 35 mm f / 1.4 R for Fujifilm X-Pro1: “A very satisfying lens. One wonders what a leap in performance could have been achieved by limiting the aperture at f/2.0!“
XF Fujinon 60 mm f / 2.4 Macro R Fujifilm X-Pro1: “Overall, probably the best digital lens and its focal category.“

Overall Valentin is very impressed by the sensor+lens performance. This is where the X PRO 1 really shines! The most problematic aspect is the autofocus which is very slow compared to the new Olympus E-M5. But that will not be a problem if you like me are used to focus manually :)
