Ken Rockwell kills the A7rII: Says it’s for Hobbyist and not for Photographers.

Bildschirmfoto 2015-09-28 um 14.58.35

Is the Sony A7rII the really first camera that can be defined as a “PRO” camera? Well according to the Chuck Norris of photography Ken Rockwell the answer is no! Actually his answer is more an insult to Sony camera owners than just a negative conclusion:

A photo hobbyist is someone who loves talking about pixels, software, apps, bit depths and especially loves playing with a zillion different brands of lenses on adapters. That’s why hobbyists and gizmo fans love this camera so much.

Hobbyists are completely different from photographers, photographic artists or pro shooters. The problem with the A7R II for use by a photographic artist like myself is that while A7R II images look great, its colors never look as great in real-world shots as I get directly from my Canons and Nikons. Most people are hobbyists and won’t notice the subtle things I do, and therefore I certainly recommend the A7R II, but for serious work, the Sony isn’t there yet.

Wow, Sony fellows will not like to read this!

Now Sony has two options: Either they make a superb A9 or they destroy Ken’s laptop so that he cannot harm them anymore :)

Review of the one good camera Canon doesn’t really push…. :)

The Canon EOS-M3 mirrorless is such a nice camera it is pity Canon doesn’t push it on a marketing level as other companies with their own mirrorless cameras. CanonWatch just reviewed the camera and writes:

The EOS M3 is powerful and well-made mirrorless camera. Everything works as advised, and it works really well. Image quality is excellent, build quality too, the AF is on pair with most competitors, it’s an EOS so it shares all the powerful possibilities of the system, and it is small and compact.
It’s a well made and powerful mirrorless camera. Nevertheless, you can’t avoid the feeling that Canon is not yet fully committed to the EOS M system. The most visible sign of this lack of commitment is likely the fact that the EOS M system has only four native lenses.

Come on Canon, just give us a strong sign and release a proper EOS-M lens roadmap! That would be something or not?

Samsung NX1 Readers’ Test

A few weeks ago the German Systemkamera Forum has conducted a readers’ review of the Samsung NX1: Nine forum members tested the Samsung top camera in all photographic fields. The result is a lot of praise and excitement, especially regarding speed and autofocus.
Some of the testers critized some aspects about the 4k video functionality, most of them already fixed with the last firmware update.

Although the test is in German the images speak for themself:

Luminous Landscape reviews the DxO One camera…and kills it right at the start!

A short video showing the issues we found during our review

Make no mistake, the DxO One camera is a great camera! But it has one very big flaw that makes it pretty much unusable. Our colleges over at Luminous Landscape described it well:

During my last week of testing, my iPhone fell off the DxO unit twice. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this. Once it fell onto a concrete floor. Not cool. The problem is the iPhone 6 Plus is a heavy phone and all that is holding it to the DxO One is a lightning connector. While holding the iPhone, the DxO One seems to be connected well. But hold the DxO unit alone and the Phone’s weight immediately begins to start pulling on the connector. A few good shakes and the camera becomes disconnected. (see video at the end of this article) Not acceptable.

I still think DxO made a step into the right direction with their product. It looks much better than the Sony QX solution. Now they just have to find a way to “secure” the device on the iPhone in a much safer way!

P.S.: If you can read french there is also a full test at Focus Numerique!
