Sigma interview: Wants to focus on lenses for M43 and NEX systems.

There is a new interview at Imaging Resource (Click here) with Kazuto Yamaki, Chief Operating Officer of Sigma Corp. The few interesting points are:

1) People are interested in high quality lenses, so primes are becoming more popular everywhere in the world.
2) for compact system cameras, we think the Sony system and Micro Four Thirds are the categories that we should support.

The most important point is that it looks like Sigma wants to develop lenses that will work on booths systems, NEX and m43. This will save them some money but in my opinion that is not the right approach. For three reasons:

1) Lenses designed for m43 could be considerable smaller.
2) Focal lengths are different. If you design a 16mm lens, this will become a 24mm on the NEX and a 32mm on the m43.
3) Every systems needs different lenses. There is a different need for lenses for m43 than for NEX.

Don’t know what you think guys :)

Canon G1 X news and reviews roundup (super image quality!)

Focus Numerique (Click here) just posted the Canon G1 X ISO test and it looks like a real top performer! The Canon G1 X is Canons (first) counterattack against the current mirrorless systems. It provides a unique solution, top image quality (with big sensors) in a compact body with retractable zoom lens. I am really curious to see if the camera will sell well. Preorders are already up at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here). The only way to measure the popularity right now is the Amazon Ranking (Click here). It’s on position 31 in the compact camera category. Probably not a good result for now!

Official message to all Mirrorlessrumors readers from Expansys.

As you know Expansys made a mess on the price of the X PRO 1. Like many of you also I did preorder the camera on their store. Now Rone of their managers sent a message to all our Mirrorlessrumors:”Hi everyone,

Just wanted to add a quick note – nope we’re not a scam site, nor a Russian hack site (or even have a Russian office!). Expansys has been going for 15 years and served, literally, millions of customers. You can even find us on the London AIM stock exchange. We certainly don’t deliberately do ‘scam’ offers, our shareholders simply wouldn’t stand for it.

We are again very sorry about the mistake we made with the price confusion on the X-Pro 1, isn’t the way we want to introduce ourselves to new visitors. Anyone who’s give us their details can unsubscribe, and we’ll contact those who pre-ordered as soon as we know our in-stock date and price.

Thanks Rob! You just proved to take care about customers!

Expansys official message: Price was wrong! But Fuji UK says ody costs 1.000 pund (less than expected)

New day and new confusion about the Fuji X PRO 1 REAL price. First Fuji Uk (see video on top /via Fujirumors) officially said the price of the body will be 1.000 punds which is less than the expected 1.200-1400 pounds (Source: AP). And than Expansys (Click here) officially wrote their excuse for the wrong Fuji X PRO 1 price. Here is the message:

To everyone who has pre-registered the X-Pro 1,
Thank you very much for your interest. Unfortunately when this product went live on Expansys.com it had an expected price, which many of you will have noticed seemed much lower than expected.
This price was incorrect, and was the estimated price for the X-Pro 1 body alone, and not the complete kit with 35mm f1/4 lens. The price should not have been set at this stage as we haven’t had confirmation from the supplier on an idea of the cost price. Our expectations are that the actual price will be at least circa 25-30% higher.
We apologise for any misunderstanding and incovenience our mistake may have caused; it’s important to us not to mislead our customers. This was due to a genuine error, and we removed the price from our site as soon as we realised the mistake in order to prevent further confusion.
As always with pre-registation and pre-orders, no money was taken from anyone who placed an order, and we will write to everyone with the launch price and when stock will arrive. Only once a pre-order has been confirmed at this point and the goods are ready to be dispatched will anyone’s cards be charged.
Once again our apologies for any annoyance or frustration this may have caused, we will share further details on the X-Pro 1 when we have them.
